An Expanded Interface for our poetic archive is here!

The Poetic Phonotheque is pleased to announce the launch of its newly redesigned website — a comprehensive digital platform dedicated to the preservation, presentation, and proliferation of contemporary poetry in sonic and cinematic form. The website serves as both an evolving archive and a participatory space, extending the Phonotheque’s mission to cultivate poetic expression across linguistic, geographic, and disciplinary boundaries.

A Living Archive of Poets’ Voices

Central to the platform is a growing audio archive featuring hundreds of poems recorded by their authors. This collection highlights a multiplicity of languages, dialects, genres, styles, subjects and vocal traditions, offering scholars, educators, and general audiences access to first-person poetic expression in its most direct and embodied form. Each recording is indexed and searchable, with metadata designed to support both casual exploration and rigorous research.

Poetry and the Moving Image

The website also hosts an extensive poetry film library, featuring works across genres including animation, documentary, experimental film, and hybrid forms. These works represent global collaborations between poets and visual artists, offering insight into how poetry continues to evolve through interdisciplinary media practices.

Annual Festivals: Sites of Gathering and Exchange

In addition to its archival function, the Poetic Phonotheque organizes two annual festivals that foreground poetry in multimedia formats:

  • WORLDTHREADING, held each spring, is a microfestival focused on experimental poetry film, highlighting emergent voices and innovative approaches to language and image.
  • NATURE & CULTURE, held in the autumn, explores ecological and cultural themes through international poetry film submissions, serving as a site for dialogue around identity, place, and sustainability.

Both festivals include curated programs, artist talks, and community engagement initiatives.

Community Infrastructure and Opportunities for Participation

The new platform introduces several pathways for public and institutional engagement:

  • Individuals can now record their own poems directly through the site’s integrated interface, contributing to the archive from anywhere in the world.
  • The Poet Ambassador Program invites poets, educators, and organizers to establish local nodes of the Phonotheque in their communities.
  • A sponsorship initiative enables donors to support the work of poet ambassadors and contribute to the broader sustainability of the archive.

New Visual Identity and logo!

The phonotheque’s new logo was designed by Daniel Malpica, an internationally recognized multimedia poet and designer. Malpica’s design embodies the conceptual ethos of the Phonotheque — a synthesis of sonic resonance and archival permanence — and reflects the organization’s commitment to aesthetic and critical innovation.

We invite cultural institutions, universities, and poetry practitioners to explore the new platform and consider collaborative possibilities. The Poetic Phonotheque is not only a repository but a framework for cultural immersion, creative research, and interdisciplinary exchange.
