The Poetic Phonotheque is pleased to announce Nature & Culture 2026: International Poetry Film Festival, taking place this November in Copenhagen, Denmark; Malmö, Sweden; Calgary, Canada; and Helsinki, Finland. Please scroll down for the digital version of the festival.
Nature and Culture brings together poetry films, animation, short and experimental films, and documentaries from filmmakers around the world. Throughout October, an online digital festival will feature 100 films, followed by live events in each of the three host cities in November. Each live festival will present a curated selection of 30 films alongside poetry readings, filmmaker talks, workshops, and opportunities for conversation and connection.
DATES:
OCTOBER 10 – HELSINKI, Finland
NOVEMBER 1 – MALMÖ, Sweden
NOVEMBER 14 – CALGARY, Canada
NOVEMBER 29 – COPENHAGEN, Denmark
The festival brings together filmmakers, poets, artists, organizations, and communities to explore the relationship between nature and culture through film. The festival creates opportunities for international collaboration while building connections between local communities across borders.
Worldthreading in spirit, the festival uses community organizing and imagination to create global connections, and a place to listen to important stories from around the world, projected through the lens of poetry.
Nature and Culture 2026 is brought to you by the Poetic Phonotheque, Red Door Magazine, The Confluence, and the Writers Guild of Alberta.
DIGITAL FESTIVAL:

Welcome to the digital edition of NATURE & CULTURE 2026: International Poetry Film Festival. This year’s digital festival features 105 films from 40 countries, exploring the relationship between nature and culture through poetry film, animation, documentaries, experimental films, and shorts.
When discussing the festival, we are often asked: What is a poetry film? It is an excellent question. We ask it all the time, and we have much more than one answer. How we listen to people, places, and things changes what they become to us. Poetry film can emerge where language, image, sound, landscape, and time meet. Each filmmaker approaches that meeting differently.
A suggested exercise: What is poetry? What is film? What is poetry film? Write your answers on a piece of paper. Turn them into a poem. Then watch a film and answer the questions again. Write another poem. Repeat.
The festival is an invitation to wander, watch, and listen. Choose a category, follow what catches your attention, and discover voices and perspectives from around the world.
Look closely. Listen deeply. Welcome to Nature & Culture 2026.
