About the Festival
WORLDTHREADING is an international nomadic film festival celebrating the invisible threads that connect us — across cultures, languages, landscapes, histories, and ways of being.
Rooted in the belief that storytelling has the power to bring worlds closer together, WORLDTHREADING creates a space for cinematic voices that explore our relationship with nature, our origins, our collective memory, and one another.
Moving between countries, communities, and cultural spaces, the festival brings together filmmakers, poets, artists, and audiences through a shared exploration of what it means to inhabit this planet.
We are especially drawn to films that cross boundaries — geographical, artistic, and linguistic — and that offer new ways of seeing, listening, and understanding the world.
WORLDTHREADING is conceived as more than a film festival. It is a growing network of encounters, conversations, and creative exchanges, weaving together diverse perspectives through the universal languages of cinema and poetry.

At the heart of WORLDTHREADING is a desire to amplify voices and perspectives that are often underrepresented in mainstream cinema and cultural institutions.
We place particular emphasis on narratives from Latin America, Indigenous communities, and other cultural traditions whose relationships with land, language, ancestry, and collective memory offer essential perspectives on our shared future.
By bringing these stories into dialogue with audiences in the Nordic region and beyond, we hope to encourage cultural exchange, ecological awareness, and a deeper sense of connection across borders.
We believe that art can open spaces for reflection, empathy, and transformation — and that poetic storytelling can help us reconnect with the living world.
What We Celebrate
WORLDTHREADING welcomes films that move between documentary, fiction, experimental cinema, visual poetry, and interdisciplinary artistic expression.
Our programming is particularly interested in:
- Nature & Ecology — Films exploring the relationship between humanity and the natural world, environmental awareness, sustainability, and ecological regeneration.
- Language & Origins — Stories about ancestral knowledge, Indigenous languages, cultural identity, belonging, and the preservation of collective memory.
- Poetry & Moving Image — Poetry films, visual poems, and cinematic works in which poetic language, rhythm, imagery, or collaboration are central to the artistic expression.
- Voices Across Borders — Films that create space for diverse cultural perspectives, especially from Latin America and Indigenous communities.
- Art & Activism — Stories of individuals, communities, and initiatives working toward positive social, cultural, and environmental change.
We are interested not only in the challenges facing our world, but also in the imagination, resilience, and possibilities that emerge when people create meaningful change.
A Nomadic Festival Without Borders
WORLDTHREADING is a traveling cultural initiative, designed to move beyond conventional festival formats.
Through film screenings, conversations, exhibitions, educational programs, and collaborations with cultural institutions, the festival connects stories with audiences in different places.
Its nomadic nature allows the festival to grow organically, creating new encounters between filmmakers, poets, artists, and local communities.
Our screenings and programs are developed with a particular connection to Copenhagen and the Nordic region, while remaining open to international partnerships and future destinations.
Rather than existing only as a single event, WORLDTHREADING seeks to create an ongoing dialogue between cultures and generations.
Poetry Films & The Poetic Phonotheque
Where poetry finds new life through moving images.
Poetry is central to the spirit of WORLDTHREADING.
The festival places special emphasis on poetry films and cinematic works that engage with poetic language, expression, and collaboration.
Through THE POETIC PHONOTHEQUE, selected works become part of a growing international multimedia poetry archive dedicated to preserving, sharing, and celebrating poetry across artistic forms and cultural boundaries.
The Poetic Phonotheque exists both online and through physical presentations in the Nordic countries and internationally, bringing poetry into schools, cultural institutions, exhibitions, and public events.
Unlike conventional festival screenings, which are often limited to a particular moment, this archive allows poetic works to continue reaching new audiences long after the festival has ended.
Poetry films included in the collection may also be presented through Red Door Magazine and The Poetic Phonotheque’s digital channels, connecting filmmakers and poets with an international audience.
An archive that travels. A collection that grows. A poetry of voices without borders.
Screenings & Festival Experience
WORLDTHREADING brings films to audiences through a combination of physical screenings and digital presentations.
Our Copenhagen screening program takes place in June, bringing together selected works in a shared cultural setting. Films are also presented online for a two-week festival viewing period through The Poetic Phonotheque platform.
Poetry films have an additional opportunity for long-term visibility through the permanent archive, future cultural programs, educational screenings, and editorial features in Red Door Magazine.
Through this approach, WORLDTHREADING aims to create a lasting cultural platform rather than a temporary showcase.
Poetry films selected for the festival may also be shared through The Poetic Phonotheque YouTube channel, operated by Red Door Magazine. Filmmakers who do not wish their work to appear on YouTube can notify the organizers by email.

WORLDTHREADING is an initiative of RED DOOR, in collaboration with THE POETIC PHONOTHEQUE.
Founded in New York in 2009, Red Door Magazine is an international quarterly publication devoted to contemporary art, culture, literature, and creative expression.
Now based in Copenhagen, Denmark, RED DOOR also operates as a gallery and cultural platform, bringing together artists, writers, filmmakers, and creative communities from around the world.
Through its editorial work, exhibitions, artistic collaborations, and interdisciplinary projects, RED DOOR fosters dialogue across cultures and artistic disciplines.
THE POETIC PHONOTHEQUE extends this mission through an international multimedia poetry collection and a growing network of educational and cultural activities, dedicated to making poetic expression accessible across languages, generations, and geographical boundaries.
Together, these initiatives form the foundation of WORLDTHREADING — a festival dedicated to connecting people and places through stories that deserve to travel.

WORLDTHREADING, the international nomadic film festival organized by RED DOOR and THE POETIC PHONOTHEQUE, invites filmmakers, poets, and visual artists from around the world to submit their work for its 2027 edition.
We are looking for films that explore humanity’s connections with nature, language, identity, ancestry, and our shared planet. We especially welcome poetry films, experimental cinema, documentaries, Indigenous perspectives, and voices from Latin America and underrepresented communities.
With a focus on poetic storytelling, environmental awareness, and cultural exchange, WORLDTHREADING celebrates cinema as a bridge between worlds and a catalyst for positive change.
Selected films will be presented through festival screenings and online programming, with poetry films having the opportunity to become part of THE POETIC PHONOTHEQUE, our traveling international multimedia poetry archive.

WORLDTHREADING 2026 — Connecting Worlds Through Film & Poetry
Presented in collaboration with Periferia, the festival celebrated poetic cinema, environmental awareness, Indigenous perspectives, and storytelling as a powerful means of cultural exchange and positive change.
The 2026 edition of WORLDTHREADING, the international nomadic film festival organized by RED DOOR and THE POETIC PHONOTHEQUE, took place at Kulturhuset Indre By in Copenhagen on May 15 and again on June 11, bringing together international cinematic voices exploring humanity’s connections with nature, language, cultural identity, and origins.
Through a diverse selection of poetry films, documentaries, and experimental works, WORLDTHREADING created a space for dialogue across cultures, languages, and artistic disciplines.
poetic journey continues through THE POETIC PHONOTHEQUE, an international multimedia archive bringing poetry films to new audiences through digital platforms, schools, and cultural institutions worldwide.
